I have a digital electric smoker.  It is seasoned and ready to use.  I plan to smoke a whole chicken this weekend.  I am looking for a recommendation oc cooking temp 200, 225, or maybe even 250 degrees.  I would also like a guess about how long it will take realizing that I will ultimately cook until the bird reaches about 165 internal temp.   Thanks,   joe

Joe, welcome to SMF!  Glad you are here and looking to smoke a yard bird this weekend.

With chicken, you need to think hotter.  Since you have an electric smoker, 275F is probably as hot as your chamber will go.  That's where you want to smoke that bird.  One thing you can do to help with dryer skin, it stick the bird uncovered in the refrigerator overnight to help dry out the skin a little.  Then spray with light oil and dust it with rub just before you put it on the smoker.

Time wise for a 6 lb bird?  Two to three hours.  Just depends on the bird.

Have fun!
