I'm afraid I can't be much help. Everyone I know that has that type of patio cover has canvas on it that they bring in during the winter.

On another, tho similar note, I'm just beginning to build a pergola over our patio that I'm going to grow wisteria on. I've a long ways to go on it but I did get the piers poured for the four 6x6's. I'm building this in the same manner I built our deck 10 years ago.

Richie how did you anchor yours?

I'm no help on your question Richie, but that looks like it's going to be one top notch place to do some smokin in bad weather & winter time ! Thumbs Up

A suggestion Richie. I have seen them with roll up clear polyethylene siding. That was in the summer or when the weather premits you can roll it up and have it completely open. If there is a prevailing wind you can drop the plastic one a side or two to make a wind break. And when there is 4 ft of snow on the ground you can take down all 4 and when you fire up your pit it gets nice fairly quick. I saw a lady use white canvas with curtain pull backs and it looks like one of those tented areas you see in the carribean.

Course all of these were in the south. Looks good though.

That is a Honey-Do well done!

Geezer I will be lagging this to the joist,it came with 8" spikes that are suppose to hold it to the ground, with gale winds

What kind of hard top are you putting on it Richie?? I sure like the idea of a solid roof a lot more than canvas.

It's gonna make a great cooking area.

Gary
Gary this has sheet metal panels,it is heavy

Kevin we had shower curtain on the old one, to cut the breeze and also give more shade

I gotcha, and yeah its wind I'd be concerned with. Did you by chance get this at Sam's Club? I ask because they have one out on the floor that I noticed today.

Not exactly a hard top, but about 10 years ago when I had the siding and roof replaced on the house, I had them extend the roof line over 1/2 of my back deck to form a covered porch.  I ended up with a 10' deep and 35' wide covered porch that is 9' tall at the edges and the interior ceiling line slants up to about 13 1/2' flat where the two ceiling fans are mounted.  Not including the ceiling fans & wiring, it only costs me $600 extra to add that cover to the deck.  Best $600 I ever spent.  The $600 was for the small amount of wood and extra shingles as they were doing all the other work already as I had a contractor strip the roof and all the siding off (we had that old press board Louisiana Pacific stuff that was the subject of all the litigation - stripped it all off, added insulation and put back on hardi plank).

Since I added that, I have smoked in rain, snow and 10* weather with no problems.  So a hard top or anything that gives you a similar protected outdoor area is worth the money and time in my book.
