I recently purchased a very well built wooden storage container for use as a smokehouse on my property. The container is 7' tall, 5' wide, 8' long with a door on end that is the full size of the end (7' tall x 5" wide, I realize probably not optimal). It is about as airtight as you can get at the moment.

I plan to put concrete pavers on the wooden floor on the door end with a fire pit/box on it.

Looking for suggestions, best practices, on optimal type of fire pit/box, venting suggestions, etc for the described makeshift smokehouse.

Thanks for any/all comments, suggestions, recommendations, etc. If I'm a moron for trying to use this as a smokehouse, say that too (gently, lol).

Welcome to SMF!

I'm not a builder, so I can't help with your question.

But I'm sure someone will be along shortly who can.

Some pics would help..

Depends what you have to work with and budget.

Keep it simple and shouldn't be too hard to figure out a design.
