What is this MES 40 worth? Does it work well?

I have seen many posts about the generation 2 MES units and their weaknesses (position of exhaust, etc). I saw this listing on let go and I was wondering would this be worth it for less money? What would you all offer for it? Or are the problems I have read about so major that it is not worth it at all? I would mainly use it for smoked sausage. Thanks!

Also, can the cold smoking unit somehow be used with the amnps maze or tube? Thanks all

I own 2 of the original 40" mes. They both work great! I just don't use them anymore. I don't know about the newer ones. But I paid $450+ for the first one. Hope this helps.

Personally I wouldn't give more than $50 for a Generation #2.

However there are a few things that could be done to possibly make them usable, if I got stuck with one & couldn't get a Gen #1 or a Gen #2.5.

This is My Opinion, based on experiences with all 3 Generations of MES 40 units.

Thanks Bear! I was waiting for you to chime in. I'll pass on it as I don't need it badly. Ultimately I'd like to get a 40 or a much larger custom built electric and get rid of my 2 1st gen MES30s but for now they do just fine.

Yeah---That would be an awesome price it it was for a Gen #1, and especially if it was for a Gen #2.5.

I hate to criticize them, but I hate to see people getting stuck with the Gen #2.

They have two awesome models---I don't know why they keep making the Gen #2.
