Hey

That's Taunton somerset UK not Taunton Mass.  I've been lurking for a while but the time has come to join up.

In my day job I'm a ranger team leader for the National Trust  (there's not really a US analogue but the closest is probably the National Parks service), I'm also just edging into small holding with the intention of keeping pigs (amongst other stuff).  On top of which I'm a hobby wood turner and carver.

For me smoking is a a natural confluence of these - my day job gives me access to lots of wood, turning it gives me lots of shavings and off cuts - and access to a workshop for making stuff.  Smallholding would give me lots of meat, cheese and vegetables to smoke. The day job also gives me charcoal from our kilns

So far the only smoking I've done has been at the biscuit tin on a hot plate level,  however after a lot of lurking I've decided on building a miniWMS for hot smoking - although webber products are really expensive this side of the pond so i'll probably be using some sort of knock off from ebay.

I'm also looking at building a smoke generator on the venturi effect model to use with a wooden cabinet or adapted wardrobe or similar for cold smoking.

As you may have gathered i like making stuff so my interest in the forum is nearly as much in a community for sharing tweaks and mods and building things as it is in then using it to smoke things.

I'll look forward to sharing some builds in progress as things move forward
