When I'm at most local stores buying brisket, they have brisket and corned beef brisket with a spice pack. What want to know is if I don't use the spice pack is it a normal brisket? Sorry for a dumb first question but I do love the site.

No dumb questions here.

talleyquacker, the briskets are not the same. Corned beef has already been cured. The spice packet is just for more flavoring.

If you're looking to smoke a regular brisket, do not buy corned beef.

Thank you kinda figured something like that. I bought a corned beef brisket today on clearance for $3.50 for about a 4lb flat. It went hurt to smoke it, will it? Either way just 3 dollars. Thanks again

no won't hurt at all.... put it in the smoker... it will become pastrami after you smoke it.... makes excellent sammich's ... smoke it to an internal temp off around 200` ... then wrap in foil and put in a dry cooler covered with towels and let rest for at least an hour ...

You can certainly smoke it, but it won't taste like smoked brisket. It will be more like pastrami, especially if you rub it with those spices.
