I'm new to smoking. I currently reside in Pennsylvania. I decided to start cheap until I learn the ins and outs and decide what I like at which point I will buy or build something nicer. Which leads me to my first question. I purchased a Masterbuilt 30 electric smoker and a bunch of different pellets. Come to find out you're not supposed to use pellets in it. So I purchased the amazen 12 inch tube. I've read some people saying that the 12 inch tube is plenty of smoke, i have also seen that Todd describes it as supplemental smoke. Is the 12" tube enough for a unit as small as the MES30 or should i order the 5x8 pan? I didn't plan and running chips in addition to the tube. Just looking to use pellets only. Unless you all think I'm going entirely the wrong direction and should ditch the pellets for chips?

The tube will produce a lot more smoke than the tray, but it also burns out quicker.

For your MES 30 I would use the tray, you can get 8 hours+ smoke without refilling it.
