Hello-

I joined because there's a lot of discussion about smokers, particularly the top-down vented pits like Jambo and what Franklin does. I'm probably going to have someone build the pit, but came here to learn more.

From where in the UP are you from?  I went to Finlandia in Hancock for 2 years, and then at Northern Michigan University in Marquette.  I miss how beautiful it was up there.  Say Ya to the UP, Eh?

You're in SoCal, and you miss the Yoopers??  There's medicine that will cure that problem, and it's usually sold over the counter in 80 proof bottles!  You've been away for too long if you miss March and April in these parts!

All kidding aside, for a town the size of Marquette, their restaurant selections and food quality are amazing.  Little Cajun & Creole place there called Lagniappe (other than the pricing) is as solid as anything I've ever eaten in East Texas/Louisiana.  Etouffee, gator, po-boys were as good as I could imagine.  Casa Calabria's Italian is good, as is the Rice Paddy for Thai/Hmong.

Another Michigander here! Born and raised in the D

. Lived in the Claire area for a few years, and I still have kinfolk in the Alpina area. Now living in Southern Utah, and definitely miss the snow sometimes(Christmas).

I am sure what ever questions ya have, somebody will have some suggestions/answers!
