Last summer, someone gave me a Charbroil brand offset smoker in very good condition. After several uses, I concluded no matter what I did, the cabinet was always flooded with smoke to the point of coming out of every crack and opening. No adjustment to air inlet or exhaust would allow for the right heat and exhaust.
I removed the pissy little 3 inch exhaust and installed a 6 inch stove pipe section with a damper. Now I can get the heat to within a few degrees of target without flooding the cabinet with smoke.
