Howdy all
Currently building a wine barrel smoker.
Have heard they can fall apart with use, but at least it will look good a few times!
Just finished screwing all the staves to the hoops and preparing to cut the top off and hinge it, sand and oil it. Shelves using Weber grates or expanded mesh.
Planning on using an electric stove element for the burner after seeing a filing cabinet smoker doing it.
Has anyone done this before that can share their lessons?

The barrel staves will shrink..  that will allows for air infiltration which is good for a smoker..   You should screw them all in place or it will fall apart...  given enough time and drying out the wood...

Any experience with using an electric stove hob for hot smoking? I'm thinking it should work as I have seen this work with filing cabinet smokers on YouTube, and having a wood case can only help to insulate the inside
