Hey guys, so my wife doesn't really like sausage or bratwursts, but she does like hot dogs and those little cocktail weiners or little smokies...whatever they are called.  I'm trying to convince her we need a dedicated sausage stuffer (the kitchenAid mixer is horrible).  I told her I could make some homemade hot dogs and those little cocktail wieners that they have at parties.  She was all for that.  Now, I just need a good recipe for the cocktail wieners.

I saw this thread....

http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/175988/cocktail-smokies-finished

and this one...

http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/242481/hot-dogs-and-cocktail-smokies

both threads happen to be from @boykjo

It looks like the cocktail smokies recipe is from Len Poli..(I need to research that)

My big question...do these taste similar..hopefully better...than the cocktail smokies you buy at the store? similar spices, etc?

thanks!

Nate.

Since Joe made them both, I'm sure they're both Awesome, but I agree with "CM"---Send Joe a PM & ask him for his opinion on each one.

Joes a Great Guy!!

I can tell you from first hand taste... they were excellent ... WAY BETTER than store bought .... he brought those to the N. FL. Gathering and shared them with us ...

IMHO using len poli's recipe is your best bet for the smokies. For hot dogs I would use the recipe Dan used in his thread http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/105244/wiener-makin

The flavors will be similar. better? that depends. Carolina pride smokies made here in nc are aweful IMO. The Johnsonville are pretty good.  The recipe's are pretty good too.
