This is to a question that was on here about calculating the length of your exhaust for a smoker. My thoughts and experiences have been more on the intake to exhaust in Square inches. I made my exhaust 10% less that my intake square in inches. I open up the door when I start a fire. Once it gets hat and going, then I close the door and it draws fine.
The way it was explained to me is that you want to choke your smoker a little bit so that it will draw but it can never draw more than the intake. It is always like a slow moving river. Low and slow.
 
Good morning, To get the correct stack Volume  use 22 to 24 % of the Firebox to cook chamber opening
