I have a question for the group here for anyone that wouldn't mind helping me figure this out.

I will give a little of the background first then get into my question.

I am using a BBQ Guru Digi Q and a Kamado Joe

Fogo hardwood lump charcoal

I started my smoker just like I would any other time, got it going and the coals where burning. I then added the ceramic plate, a drip pan and the cooking grate and closed it down and I had the Digi Q set at 230 degrees and the fan plugged into the kamado. The temp got to about 240 initially and i put on the pork butts. I then let them cook and about 3 hours into the cook i went out and checked on it, and the temp had fallen, I set the Digi Q up to about 250 and nothing happened (the fan kicked on but no increase in temp). at this point the top vent was open about a quarter inch, so I increased this and the temperature started to rise. I increased the temp on the digi q to about 260 and the temp was still rising so I left it alone, I go back out about an hour later and the temp had fallen back down to around 225-230ish and so i looked at it and opened the slider all the way up, the temp rose again to about 260 and stayed there and now i am having the same problem again, temp fell back down to around 225, and so now I have bumped the digi q up to 300 and left the vent open.

Would any one out there know why this problem is occurring? The outside air temperature was around 40 degrees Fahrenheit when I started the cook, and then as the sun fell it is around 22 degrees outside now. I have had problems with the Kamado getting to hot, but I have never had a problem with it not getting hot enough.

Any insights as to why this would be happening would be greatly appreciated.

thank you in advance for any advice you can possibly give.

take care!

Is this the first time you used the Guru?

If not, and it has worked well before, then I would suspect a bad probe wire or bad connection at the Guru.

Do you have another probe wire you could use?
