I just joined the SMF today.  My name is Mike, I live in Alabama, I smoke and grill with a Big Green Egg.  I look forward to getting to know you guys and gals via the forum site.

I do have a question.  This weekend I smoked a Boston Butt at 250 degrees for 12+ hours.  I did not wrap the butt during the  stall.  However, after resting the meat and pulling it for our evening meal, I found the meat basically had no flavor.  It was tender and juicy but did not taste like butts I've done in the past.  Any ideas?

Welcome
Did you season the butt with anything?
I've had cuts of meat before taste like nothing, even what I thought at the time was a good ribeye. Very disappointing. Not sure if others can agree but sometimes the meat itself is a dud.

MK67, Welcome !! I agree with B on meat sometimes being bland, did you use a good rub or go with a basic salt/pepper?

I used a good dry rub that contained brown sugar, sea salt, paprika, onion and garlic powder, black pepper, and cumin.  Bark tasted good but meat inside had no flavor.  I think Bellaru is correct.  Must have been the meat itself.

Welcome from SC, Mike. It's really good to have you on this great site. There are lots of fine folks here who are always eager to share their ideas, recipes and tips. All you have to do is ask and keep reading.

Did you use a finishing sauce when pulling the butt? Not an alternate to good flavor, but can enhance what flavor that's there.

Good luck and good smoking, Joe. :grilling_smilie:

Welcome to the forum!

If you want a lot of flavor inside, the best way is to inject the butt.

I always insert garlic into ours, How long did you sit it after the rub before the smoker?

Thanks to everyone that has welcomed me to the forum and for those that has responded to my question regarding my tasteless Boston butt.  Now can anyone tell me how to remove this thread or do I just leave it on the site.
