This is a bit more of a general question but here goes.

Got a 40" Masterbuilt electric smoker for christmas.  Finally had the chance to season it this past weekend.  Would like to try smoking a ham because that's what my wife likes.  So, it will be my first time smoking as well as first time cooking a ham.  Would love some feedback any any of the following questions answered.

-What kind of ham?  Are there different types?

-How many pounds for ~4 people?

-Roughly how long will it need to cook per pound?  I know temp is the ultimate decider but just want to get a general idea.

-What type of wood chips?

-What cooking temp is best?  Do you ever adjust during cooking?

-Brine/inject?

Anything else I should know?

Thanks.

I agree with Case!

Just pick up a smoked ham & smoke it again.

Don't get one that is spiral sliced, they tend to dry out.

Agree with al on the spiral sliced.Did 2 hams last weekend one was spiral sliced the other i scored it on the surface. The edges of the spiral sliced were kinda dry but the other was perfection. I waited til it was 135 IT to glaze it and took the ham off at 145 IT . Also spritz the ham every 45 mins or so to really keep it from drying out.
