New Year’s "2017" Pork & Sauerkraut (and Birthday Halupkis)

This Pork & Sauerkraut on New Year’s Day has been a Tradition of both of our Families as far back as we can trace.
Therefore we aren’t about to let it come to an end.

This Dinner was for Bear, Mrs Bear, Bear Jr, and Bear Jr’s Wife “Bethany”.

So on December 23, while buying our Choice Prime Ribs on sale for $5.99, and our Smoked Ham Shank Portion for $0.79, we picked up a Whole Pork Loin (seen below) for $0.99 per pound.

According to Mrs Bear, I’m not allowed to Smoke the Pork for New Year’s Day, so this small 4 pound portion had to go into her Crock-Pot.

Everything else is recorded in the captions above each picture.

Hope you enjoy,

Bear

Bought (12-23-2016) 9.57 Pound Pork Loin for $9.47 (99 cents per Lb)

FINI……

Holy cow. I am originally from NEPA about 30 miles north of Scranton.  Small town called Waymart

I have not had halupkis in forever! You just made me hungry and slightly homesick, haha.

I have been looking for a change of pace for meals.  Can you PM me Mrs. Bears recipe?  I could probably google one but you know...

Thanks and point for making me hungry!  My mouth literally started to water when I saw that pic.

Thank You NiceFly!!

I've had Hunky, Polish, and Ukrainian Halupkis, and I love them all so much I have trouble telling them apart nowadays!!

Mrs Bear doesn't make them---These were from my Son's Wife.

However I think "Gary S" has a Great Recipe for them (Below):

And Thanks for the Points,

Looks great! I made mine too but grew up with Pork and Sauerkraut made with Spareribs. Adds a ton of flavor and lip smacking collagen to the dish...JJ

Looks tasty! Is that butter and gravy on the taters?
Thank You!!

That's Butter.---Love It.

We normally make Gravy, but not when we're having Sauerkraut. They just don't go good together. IMO

Thanks Jimmy!!

We just couldn't pass up the 99 Cent Pork Loins. Spare Ribs around here are 4 Times that price!

Plus I got plans for the other 6 pounds of Boneless Pork Loin.

Looks like a great meal, John.  You just can't go wrong with anything on the table that night.

I'm always happy when I see someone besides me who like their spuds swimming in butter.

Happy Birthday!!!

Gary
