So, versus an AMNPS INSIDE the smoker chamber, we have all read about "creosote" and whatever stuff that the longer your pipe, the ?better? the smoke quality.

Some guys have their MB within like 2', a few have up to around 20' of straight, or "U" setups.

There may be concerns over sufficient draft if you have up and down "U"s, but I THINK with a way open output vent on the smoker, (may have to be custom cut, as my case w Analog Masterbuilt) AND sufficient inch sq properly located intake in MB, should work.

OHHH - To the above arrangement, to induce draft I would think you need to be running maybe like ballpark minimum 250f in the smoker.

If Cold smoking, like cheese, There may definitely be NOTHING to "Pull" the smoke through., on a lengthy up and down U arrangement.

Comments please.

I have a straight run, between 2'-4' depending on the day. Never had a problem with creosote or bad tasting smoke. Also never have a problem with the smoke generator being right in the smoke chamber. Good air flow when cold smoking is more important. My smoker has good air flow and isn't airtight.

Honestly I think some over think things and worry too much.

Dirtsailor - I have read many of your posts and respect your knowledge from experience.

Don't think you meant I was overthinking, but I  thoroughly do think fully through any engineering stuff.

Always been a thing of mine, hence 99% success on allll my varying projects over close to 50 yrs.           Marc

The non insulated single pane Mes window is a great visual on the AMNPS inside vs. outside.  The AMNPS outside with just a straight 3"x2' pipe and mailbox keeps my window clean maybe three times longer than when I had it inside.  Especially in the cooler fall, winter and spring months.  It really dries the smoke (condensation drips from the pipe joints and mailbox before reaching the smoker.)  That sticky mess coating the inside of the mod didn't make it to the product chamber.  Over the summer there was an increase in posts regarding proximity fires in the Mes 30 Gen 1.  Some had drips from meat that contributed to the proximity fires.  I didn't have problems with my AMNPS in my MES 40 gen 1.  I had safety concerns since I am not using the stock chip smoke generation setup that came with the smoker as intended.  Then, found I prefer the smoke better, being generated outside the smoker.

Mock up on spare indoor Mes w/o leg extension kit.

Temporary stand for the Mes w/ leg extension kit.

Permanent stand from a tomato cage strapped to the mailbox.

No extension.  Just the coupling on the mailbox.

Two foot extension.

Supercollider aluminum flex extension.

Rack to elevate AMNPS off the bottom of the mailbox.

Perfect smoke.

In the pic below I use the longer aluminum flex pipe going to my heavy guage steel grill as a heat sink in the morning shade.  Gives me longer cold smokes for cheese.
