Hey everyone, starting a smoker build. Im starting with my outdoor gourmet smoker grill combo. Im keeping as much as I can from this one, I plan on building a gravity feed insulated smoker. The smoking chamber is big enough and in good shape so im keeping that. Im going to build a 1in sq tube frame to go around the chamber and im going to insulate it with mineral wool. I also am keeping the majority of the fire box and going to turn it into a ash box. So far all I have done is tore down and cut up the smoker and made as many flat pieces as I could that wernt burned out or rusted out. Im going to try and spend less than $200 on this build. I have quite a bit of scrap around work and plenty of 1in sq tubing. For my fire box I found a piece of 13in 5x5 1/2 in thick square tubing that im going to cut in half and cut into angle iron and weld all 4 pieces together to make a 10x10x6.5 in box, my other thought would be cut it down and make 8x8x6.5 not sure if 10in would be to big (my cooking chamber is 16wx24dx28t ish) and the grate on the bottom will be made from 1/2 sucker rod we have laying around. The transfer tube will be 5x3 3/16s. I also got 3 3/4in ball valves for air control (2in ball vale is crazy expensive and 3 3/4 should move as much or more air) and 1in x 1/8 nomex seal. Pretty excited for this build i hope to get it done in 2-3 weeks if anyone has suggestions please feel free other wise enjoy some pics as i get them.
Please excuse my horrible grammer and my bad drawing.

Also wanted to add I want to keep my water pan, all of the gravity feeds I have seen none of then have water pans. I plan on keeping mine as i dont tend to do alot of meat at once and i like the help keeping temp i just get tired of re filling it so im going to do a gravity feed system on the water supply also.

Got my fire box started turned the 5x4.5 in square tube into a 10x9 x6.25 in tall fire box its also 1/2 in thick just gotta straighten up the end. Build my 1/2 in sucker rod grate and atach my 5x5 transfer tube. Thats tomorrows goal.

I also cut out a adapter plate for the top of my fire box to atach my charcoal chute. My charcoal chute will be 5x5 at the top and 8x8 at the bottom. And finally I got my charcoal grate welded up out of 5/8 sucker rod. Probably wont get much done next couple days hopefully friday i can get some work done.
