Hello Y'all

I am new to the hobby of smoking and I bought myself a Dyna Glo 1890 Smoker. I am trying to season my new smoker and the instruction say to keep the temp low around 175 or so. How do you maintain that heat? How does opening the fire box vents and the chimney work hand in hand? I am getting 267 +- degrees and maintaining that temp with the door open slightly. The instruction also said burn about 5 lbs / 90 pieces of charcoal at one time and to Season the smoker like you would smoke your meat. I season the smoker at a higher temp did I wreck the seasoning / will everything cure properly?
