Hey all,

I just picked up my first smoker at a garage sale for. It is a Perfect Flame vertical propane smoker. Despite it being $15, it's in pretty good shape.

The issue I'm having is that when I turn the gas on more than halfway I notice flame coming from somewhere other than the burner. I'm not sure if this is a feature or what but it seems odd.

Here is a picture of the spot its coming from without the flame, and one with it. Any ideas what might be going on?

Yeah that's not normal. The only place you should have flames is coming out of the top of the burner. Your supply line either has a crack in it and needs to be replaced. Or the burner has a crack in it and need to be replaced, or the venturi is not aligned into the port that it goes into.

Ht the send button to fast. Get the smoker up where you can get a really good look under it. Make sure that the end of the venturi is in the hole that it is supposed to go into. If that is fine then apply diluted soapy water to any joints or areas that look suspect and turn the gas on, DO NOT LIGHT. Look for bubbles, that will be your leak is. Burners and regulators are easy to source online. Lowes is another good place to look. You'll probably want to bet a needle valve anyways for controlling temps. The needle valve replaces the stock regulator.
