Smoking Container Question

When smoking Gary's world famous baked beans I, as well as others, use the tinfoil pans. I was at a yard sale and thought that instead of purchasing the disposable foil pans that perhaps I could smoke in this older roaster.

Can you smoke in these older roasters?

Sure. Another good option is to use a cast iron Dutch oven.

I use one of those as my water pan in my offset... i would assume most oven safe containers would be fine in a smoker so long as they are not exposed directly to the flames. And even then im not sure it would be a big deal for most options. I do like dirtsailor's idea better in general.

I would if I'd have found one of them at a yard sale for a dollar. Lol

I just wanted to make sure that it was ok and that the material of it was ok.

I use all kinds of pans in my smokers.

I usually foil the outside bottom, because it gets black stuff all over it & it's hard to clean.

Thanks Al, that's a great tip! I'll be sure to do that.

Al

I've started wrapping the pan in foil (because I hate cleaning it), too.

ps Barkeepers Friend cleans amazing for those parts that still need cleaning. A super tough cleaner yet still gentle enough for my allclad stainless.
