I just did a google search for the basket and decided to use a pizza pan. Cheap and would work good. At least baskets are cheap to make. I used what scrap steel I had around the shop, only mistake was that the basket is about an inch or so higher than my bolts for the diffuser rack. So I'll figure something out for diffuser or add new bolts. This is my first UDS build and hopefully will be seasoning and testing it this weekend. Still need to put in 1 or 2 holes for my temp probes and a meter holder.

Couldn't think of a better handle, think I'll keep my build theme with driftwood handles. Need to find something to seal the handles that's food safe and easy to clean.

Nice build!

You can use any type of finish you want on the handle, it doesn't have to be food safe. Since its outdoors I would use a spar varnish like Helmsman. Get it on before you get greasy food fingers touching it.

Nice build. Personally tho I would have mounted the thermometer between the top 2 racks but I guess where you cook most is the ideal place. I get the rustic look with the stick, just looks odd to me. I can't decide if it's the contrast or that it sticks out beyond the smoker. You're going to love cooking on it. :grilling_smilie:

After working on my first Reverse Flow smoker and trying to come up with an idea for a handle, walking down the lake saw the wood and said here is my smoker handle. Something I haven't seen on any smoker, seen mostly axe handles, horns, chains, pipe, etc. But never driftwood. So I stuck with that theme. Yes, it does stick out past the lid of the UDS. Thank you for the temp gauge idea, might have to move it. My first UDS and still playing with it.

Ended up getting buried in the snow, hopefully when spring rolls around, I am going to finish my smoke shack to cover the equipment.
