Ok, I've heard pros and cons of cleaning an electric smoker, so I thought I'd ask the experts. Since I've gotten my MES, I've cooked several racks off pork and beef ribs, a couple of chickens, as well as other tasty treats.

Should I clean my MES smoker, or not? If so, any product recommendations? If I do clean it does it need to be seasoned again?

Thanx to all who enjoy a good smoked meat.

Just clean the grates, water pan & grease pan. If you have loose stuff on the sides & top that can be scraped off, but if it's not flaking off or loose then just leave it alone. That buildup is what makes the food taste good.

Since my MES is dedicated to fish, I don't dare clean anything except the grates.  Way too much work to get that beautiful dark bronze tint onto the wall to just wash away.  But if I used the smoker for different meats.........don't know what I'd do, but odds are still wouldn't do anything different.

Then Foil cover your clean water pan & bottom drip pan, so it's easier to clean next time.

I clean my water pan & bottom drip pan when it gets dirty enough to change the foil.

Also now & then clean the two heat sensors on the inside back wall.

Thanks, I do put tin foil over the grease and water pan, and I clean the grates, water and grease pans after each use only because my wife is somewhat of a germaphobe.

Our sheltie princess likes the smell of the grease drip tube in the back of the smoker. She doesn't lick it but stops and smells the end of the tube whenever she walks by it.
