Here we go. I'm entered in a brisket and bean comp tomorrow at Famous Dave's here in Mesa. It's a little throw down our BBQ club is putting on. I am entering two briskets and burnt ends and my brother is bringing in the beans..

Hopefully I can bring home some more hardware to show off to all my SMF friends.. Wish me luck.

Fire is started in my 60 Gal Rf.. waiting for some coals and then we're off to the races..

Q-view to follow as I am a little behind schedule right now..

That's looking good!
Thanks..

I'm really thinking I'm going to be way ahead of schedule now. Ughh

This a is green broke smoker and I'm learning how to use it as I go. Very different from my old brinkman and char-griller side fire boxes..

As of this post, the points have been moved down along side the flats..

.....and i was right.

As of 2200 local my IT was 182 and 185 on the flats. This is not going to be an all nighter like planned.

I did some probing and the flats were just about al dente.

Off the smoker for now and into the fridge. I'll have plenty of time to reheat them in the morning and make some darn good burnt ends....

The flats....

And the points...

We need some smell-o-vision on here..

What a load of fun..

Although I entered 2 nice briskies, I didn't bring home a top 3 trophy.

My brother placed third in the beans though.. I thought his were the best.

I'll post up more pics of the event later, for now we're headed to his house..

One of my entries...

Too bad I didn't have any leftovers to bring home..

I'll post up the results as soon as I can get them.

Sounds like you had fun (except for the heat) and met interesting people! They don't have BBQ comps here in Indiana that I know of and I don't know if I'd have the gumption to try.
Points for making all of us at SMF proud to have you with us!

They are a load of fun. Good people enjoying the same passion..

Look around for a local club.

This wasn't KCBS or even BCS. It was just a club throw down so there wasn't hefty registration fees and such. Plus all the briskets were cooked at home then brought to the event so there was no camping out required.

The owner of the restaurant wants to sponsor a four-meat event (chi, ribs, pulled pork and brisket) and have everyone set up their smokers in the parking lot.. Looking forward to that!
