An update since my initial start here 2 months ago. A look back:

I love to cook. 2 years ago, I was asked to cook in a contest locally. I cooked on a Lang 108 and took 1st Place in Ribs! ($500) I have been wanting a RF ever since. So, I took the plunge. A local LP Gas dealer gave me a lead on some tanks they had just delivered to the scrap yard.

As it turns out, the LP Gas Co had hired a guy to refinish some used tanks and he grabbed the wrong stack to start on! These were actually to be scrapped. But they look nice! I gave $100

After reading horror stories, I ordered a set of plans. I feared building a great looking grill that wouldn't function.

First cut. Note all the soapy water.

Doors cut and baffle installed. The baffle is made from 3 sheets of 3/32 steel plug welded every 5 inches. It is heavy and solid.

Firebox fab. My next door neighbor is a supervisor for a global steel manufacturer and he got my steel and precut it all. Good neighbors/friends are priceless!

2 weeks ago. A 20 ft Stratus worthy of the dump and a tank rolling around on the concrete floor. I called the picture "I have a dream..."

And did I mention how hot it has been for the past 2 weeks?

Progressing.

First fire today.

Thin blue smoke from the smoke stack. Came to temp quickly and the fire was very easy to control, just as planned. My plans are exactly the same as the pit calculator on this site suggest too.

The draw looks good. Might be cooking within the next week. Thanks for all the contributors to this sight. I've been nose deep in good info for months and it's paying off!

Nice   I have 6 tanks arriving this week to build some trailers with. Hopefully by the end of the week I will have some pics to share.

Will be using Dave O's calculator as with the rest of my builds.
