Hello all figured I would join a smoking forum as I will be picking up a Traeger pellet smoker this coming week. It is a gift from the father in law as he already had a green mountain pellet smoker and got the Traeger at an auction so he didn't have to haul his back and forth from the lake house to his house.
He ended up not liking the traeger as much so he is giving it to me. Not sure what model it is yet is I haven't even seen it. But figured I would join a forum and start reading up on some tips and tricks.
never had a proper smoker before but had used packets with wood chips on a gas grill before for ribs and was actually able to get a smoke ring on them.
As far as the smoker goes it seems that some people love traeger and others hate them and then certain ones when they went to China are junk. I am hoping its a good model but we will see. Looking into what mods people have done to them and also the common up keep needed to keep them going.
