Hello. I'm a new member to your forum. I just purchased an Oklahoma joes highland smoker. I have cooked on it just 5 times. I have joined this site to learn as much as I can from all of you.

I have a quick question, I bought a Lavalock 1/2 x 1/8 gasket and installed it around my main chamber door but it seems to have made the leak worse. Any suggestions?

Hello and welcome to you.

If you take a look all around that door you should be able

be able to see what's happening.

Maybe take a light and put it inside of the smoker

then look around the door, wherever you see light, it's leaking.

Have fun.

Are you sure you even need a gasket? Was it leaking all that much?
Well i could see some smoke coming out around the lid. But I removed the gasket today because it was noticeable worse. Maybe I didn't need a gasket. I'm new at this

I'm new at the stick burners myself. I have a CharGriller Competition Pro, which is probably a cut below an OK Joe. The only time I see smoke coming around the door is if there's too much smoke going on, like if the fire gets too low or if I just threw a new piece of wood in and it hadn't really started burning good yet.
I wouldn't stress over it. One of the more experienced commented on another thread like this a while back, "It's a smoker, not a pressure cooker".
Sometimes "mods" get overdone and out of hand...
Just $.02 from another stick burner newbie.....
