So I'm choosing between two or three smokers they are the Old Country Pecos smoker, Old country academy smoker, and the Char Griller Smokin Champ.

The char griller is just around the corner from my house sold at Home Depot. I like how it has the little charcoal trough so I can cook burgers or steaks on the big grill or maybe use it as a ramp to direct dripping into a pan on one end. My dad really likes the idea of having a bigger cooking area for burgers.

Now I've read how the old country line is also good and has had good reviews on here. I'll be taking a trip next week to Georgia and there is a store in South Carolina that carries both of the old country smokers I'm interested in.

What would be people's suggestions Between those three smokers?

Get the Pecos.  Its an excellent mid level offset smoker  I would advise against ever using charcoal in the cooking chamber of any smoker.  But to each his own.  I had a Pecos smoker and it was an excellent pit for under $400 it can hang with the big dogs'

I second the Pecos, I had a Wrangler and thought it was pretty good for the money, would have been nice to have more space like the Pecos has, even though the metal isn't as thick, it's still the best thing you can get for the money.

My research a couple of years ago led me to the Wrangler. It's thicker than the Pecos and thickness relates to heat retention, heat recovery and longer lasting. The Pecos may be a little larger, but when you consider the top rack, there's not really that much difference.

Good luck with your decision, Joe. :grilling_smilie:

So I got back from my trip and saw both the Pecos and the Wrangler at the store. I really couldn't choose between the two. I ended up not getting one there because it would of been a pain transporting and it might not of fit, wish I had a trailer. I'm really not sure which version I would get. I might end up going with the Pecos since it's bigger. My only regret is that unlike buying in store where I can pick the best built smoker I'm stuck with what gets delivered to me.
