After having so many problems with my Brinkman vertical (my first smoker) and then the Master Forge vertical door latch broke. I tried to search for replacement parts but it seems both companies are out of business (I know Brinkman is) or something because there was nothing out there.  So I came here and read reviews on the Dyna Glow.  I wanted a vertical that was going to hold more meat then the other two because we have a large family and friends cookout .  I looked at the vertical without the offset because I didn't think I had the room for the offset, but you all convinced me that the offset was the way to go.  I found a great deal on it on Walmart.com and bit the bullet along with the cover.  It arrived last Wednesday and it didn't take long for me and hubby to put it together along with the mods I read from owners on the forum.  My plan was to season it and try it out today but the rain put a damper on that, so hopefully tomorrow. Qviews when I get her fired up.

The plan was to season and try it out Saturday but but the rain stopped that. So yesterday was better. During the seasoning I did notice some leaks around the door which I expected because I removed some of nomex on the sides of the main cabinet which made it difficult to latch the door. I'll try to deal them tomorrow with red sealant. So after seasoning I threw on some wings and a couple of slabs of ribs. Temp was good and held steady at 240. Here's the qview

Lookin' good!  Plenty of room in that rig...when you load her up, I'll bet you can feed a bunch of folks with that rig!

Nicely done!

My review of my Dyna Glo 1176:  First I love my new smoker.  This was my first time doing offset cooking and I think I love it.Hubby said the ribs were some of the best I've done and definitely better than some of bbq joints in the area.  So much easier to stoke the fire than my bullets.  I did observe during the cook that I need to seal the left and right lower sides of the main cabinet door.  I had put nomex on them but couldn't latch the door so I think I'll put RTV on each side tomorrow morning so I'll be able to use it Friday for a couple of butts.  Also I didn't have my favorite lump charcoal and used all Kingsford and wood chips.  The Kingsford briquettes produced a lot of ash which filled up the ash pan so off to BJs for a bag of lump and wood chunks for my Friday smokes. All in all I love this smoker and can't wait to try more stuff.

When I tried lump I had an issue with getting the heat up high enough.  With mine, using Kingsford with no water in the pan, just the previous grease, I can leave it wide open and run around 250-270 constant with adding lit charcoal to it.  If I am doing a long cook I will just empty the ash pan around the half way mark.  I wold say when I do a double butt it runs about 13-14 hours and eats at least a bag of Kingsford.

In my other smokers I used a mixture of lump and kingsford. I'm doing 2 9 lb. butts tonight for a grad party at 3 tomorrow. Long night ahead but I love it.

I have started using charcoal to start the fire and heat up the cooker and switching to split hickory or fruit wood .... works great and wood is much cheaper than charcoal

Never did all wood before.  May try it next weekend.

My butts took about 12 hours to finish at 205 degrees.

Once you get the hang of using splits you'll only use charcoal to get a coal bed going. The bonus is the flavor is so much better than just charcoal. I highly recommend you give it a go.
