So I just put 33lbs of butts on the smoker for a church event today.  Do you all think that will be enough for 50 people.  Prob 10-15 will be kids.  I did the math and I think I may jump in the truck and go get another one just to be sure.  Any thoughts?  BBQ pics to come!

3 pork butts should give you 3, 1/2 pans with other sides it should be enough.
But I probably agree with you...if you have room, might as well throw the 4th one on.
Good Luck with your smoke!!

Yeah I'm thinking maybe run to walmart and grab a smaller one.  Hate getting meat from walmart but thats the only place open right now......

Ok so I went and bought a smaller 8lb one to be sure there is enough.  Just hope it gets done around the same time!  I put it on about 30 mins ago. I don't think they are eating until 0630 so we shall see.

Looks tasty! Figure 1/3# finished cook weight per person when serving with sides. Typical bone in butts will yield 45-50 of the original weight once cooked and pulled.

Yeah normally I just cook a few and have leftovers.  But its for the church so I wanted to make certain there was plenty...  I think we have plenty now.

I have done two pork butts in the past five months. Each was 8-9 pounds, uncooked. I prepared it for just my wife and me. The two of us had one huge meal (we over-ate) and then I froze seven 12-oz bags (I weighed them) each of which will make two really large meals for two. Thus, I got eight meals for two (sixteen servings) from eight pounds of meat. These were generous portions, and we only had slaw and drinks with our sandwiches. If you are serving other sides, you could get more than these sixteen servings from eight pounds.

So, using my experience with these two smokes, starting with thirty-three pounds of meat, I think you have enough for sixty-six people, and should therefore have no problem feeding fifty.

Looks great,if I was in Florida I would try to figure out what church it was!:biggrin

LOL...  Well I normally smoke meat quite often.   I haven't fired up the ole smoker in about 2 months though.. Been really busy.  I neglected it...lol  I just wrapped a little while ago but will post more bbq pics when they are done..  Hopefully they are done by 1730.
