I have been thinking about getting a Lang and I have a couple of questions.
Is there a stainless steel model available?
I don't think so mine came coated in high temp black paint, but you ould call and ask they do customization upon request
Is there a problem with rust especially on the firebox?
I haven't had any with mine so far i haven't had any paint chipping or peeling and i have had my CC over 400 degrees so
my firebox has gotten really hot with flames coming out. i have been told once in a while put a light coating of mineral oil or some wd-40 or something on it helps this too. And the delivery driver of my lang game me a spray can of the same kind of paint as the rest of the smoker if i had any problems with chipping or anything
Is it important to keep the inside clean all the time?
you want to clean the cook chamber cleaned before or after every smoke as per the manufacturer.
If so is it easy to clean?
it is really easy to clean. i take a long handle wire brush to the cook surface for about about a minute per level or so and get loose any food particles stuck to it. then i get the CC up to between 325-400 degrees with a hot fire (really easy to do right before its time to cook or at the end of a smoke) then take a garden hose on jet...stand back about 5 feet and hit it with the hose for about 30-45 seconds all around the inside. and you're done. close the CC door and let the steam do its magic and excess water drain out of the drain pipe and you are good to smoke on her. there is a good you tube video on this process if you search for lang smokers.
Would you buy a Lang again or recommend it to a friend?
in a heartbeat. if you like to smoke meat and don't mind spending the time to tend a fire this is THE toy to do it with. bar none.
Any other comments you have on your Lang.
have a good place to store it. i probably dont have much rust issues because i keep mine in a garage most of the time. its really heavy (650 lbs) but easy to move around the driveway/yard, rolls really smooth. if you keep on the back patio or something just keep her covered. (char broil makes a cover that fits really well for $20) one other thing if you are gonna use charcoal to start the wood with i recommend a charcoal basket for it. you can make one if or buy one off
amazon. i got a 10"x10" one that is a great size for the 36 for like $50 off
amazon.
Thanks,
PM me if you have any other questions!
