Remove the burner and clean the spider webs out of it.... also check the propane orifice for blockage...
I did that yesterday. I took the whole burner assembly apart. Cleaned everything and blew it out with an air compressor and reassembled. It work good for about 15 minutes. When I turned the flame down got fire from the screen again and a lazy yellow flame. I also took the hose off and had the regulator tested. Switched tanks also. Might be the valve? Don't really know. It's the only thing that hasn't been changed or taken apart. Might just be time to retro another burner and hose. Thank you for the advice and any other suggestion will be greatly appreciated. This old smoker has put a lot pounds and smiles on family and friends.

When turning on the propane at the tank, be sure the burner is off.. Turn the tank on REAL SLOW... you might hear a "CLICK".. That's the idiot valve setting itself.. It is there to restrict the propane flow if you turn the tank on with it open to atmosphere.. Sometimes you have to open it slow and close it and open again to get that protection device set properly...
Sometimes, I have seen it once, the propane smoker, BBQ makers have their gas adjustment knobs "adjusted" so they will not close off the propane 100% and the tanks are hard to set the "idiot" valve with the shutoff knob leaking...
