I have a 38" propane smoke hollow and have been cranking out some delicious eats thanks to the awesome folks that contribute to this forum. My mom has witnessed the joy that smoking meat has brought to my life and has recently shown interest in getting into the smoking game herself. The other day she asked me what smoker she should get and I told her that I needed a few days to come up with a solid recommendation. I love my propane smoke hollow. I thoroughly enjoy sitting on the deck with a cold beer watching the meat smoke through the window in the smoker door while tweaking on the temp knob and adding the occasional wood chunk. However, I think a better fit for my mom would be something that requires a little less attention. I don't think she would mind feeding it wood every hour or so but I think she wants to be able to focus on her knitting or whatever instead of constantly having to fuss over maintaining a steady temperature in the cooking chamber. I'm thinking that the best thing for her would be an electric smoker but have no idea which one to recommend. She needs something that she can use straight out of the box without having to do any mods or buy any additional accessories to make it work. I think she's hoping to find something that suits her needs somewhere in the $300 range. Is there anybody out there with electric smoker experience that can help recommend an affordable and user friendly entry level smoker for us? It seems like the MES is pretty popular these days but I'm just not sure if they require any fancy custom mods or tube smokers or the like that she probably doesn't want to deal with. Thanks for the help.
