Great looking meal.

I am still laughing, Believe me you are not the first to learn the hard way about 5 spice......LOL  Nope I am not going to humiliate myself with the telling, but only excuse was, I was young and stupid and she was pretty.

Its a great meal.
Funny   I like Spicy  and heavy flavors  so I thought a little more would be better   Wrong !!!

The batch I made for today is just right, I did kick it up a little more Sriracha and Cayenne

I told a lady the night I met 5 spice they should put warning with it or just rename it to "Hot Spice".

She said, "It wouldn't be as much fun then".

Maybe I have just led a very sheltered existence but none of the 5 spice I have bought or made has been hot

That I had was HOT & spicy. I had the same experience with curry. Oh no, its spicy not hot. Someone forgot to tell the cook that.

Gary I am pretty sure she was hot too, but...... its a little foggy.
Probably better just plead the 5th on this.

Outstanding thread Gary, I really wanna try this Char Siu pork but gotta wait to get all the ingredients as we kinda live in the sticks as they say ! Next Winco run we make, this stuff is on the list ! Yours looks real tasty, very nice job & I have noted the five spice that a little goes a long ways... Thanks for sharing that as I'd have likely done the same thing on at least half cause I like hot & spicy !

Sorry I'm a bit late.  Had to help a neighbor raise his hot tub--it had settled and sunk on 2 corners.

Anyway............That looks FANTASTIC, Gary.  Hard to believe the colors.  Looking at the pic of the meat just out of the marinating bad almost made me reach for my sunglasses.

Man, talk about a bright red!!  The finished product looks delish.

I'm going to have to round up all the pieces for the marinade, but like Justin, I have to make a trip to the big city.  Sure glad you brought up the subject about less is more when it comes to 5 spice. I like all my food flavors to jump out and attack my taste buds, so there's no question--I would have used way to much.

Thanks Gary and for the point,  O my last batch, what I did was mix all the main ingredients then I added a little 5 spice the tasted, needed more heat (for me) so more Sriracha and Cayenne  until I had it just right.

You will like this, We took a couple of racks of ribs, beans and half of the Char Siu over to #2 son's house, He called and said they really loved the Char Siu ............. But !!  next time could I add more Cayenne and Sriracha
