I have been watching this forum for a while now, and decided to build my own smokehouse.  I wasn't going to post it on here but I think its turning out pretty well and wanted to share.  I started with a bunch of leftover 2x4's and built a base and sheeted it with 3/4" plywood.  The dimensions of it were 3'x5' and then built walls 6' high and put a roof on it.  I insulated the walls with wool insulation and sheeted the inside of them with Durock concrete board.  I am allowing for 2 -4x10" floor registers across the front and back for intakes and have a 6" chimney with a damper in the back.  I am going to be sheeting over the concrete board with 22 gauge aluminum and putting tile up the sides 24" around the burner.  I am going to side the exterior with hardie board siding.  The cost got a little carried away but I can't stop now. Let me know what you guys think and if you have any suggestions let me know!

I think it looks pretty dang good. I just finished mine and I agree with you. The cost just keeps going up. Haha. I like the side compartment. I'd be afraid to leave my tank in there. But I'm kind of freaked out by propane tanks. Got a friend that got sent to the burn center because of one.

Nice smoker...    2nd on the propane tank...  have it outside when operating the smoker...    if the tank gets warm and the blowoff plug lets go, the ensuing explosion could level the neighborhood....

Thanks for the input!  I was planning on running a pipe into the side compartment and then having a 5 foot hose hooked up from there so I can pull the tank outside when in use.  In a perfect world I was looking at adding an electric programmer and a thermostat but I think that will have to wait for now.

These are pretty sweet. But a whack load of money!

I was wondering what you guys thought about what maximum temperature I should be able to hold.  I don't think I will go above 250 to often but thought it would be nice to get it up to 300
