I used an 8" piece of pipe for my stack and kept it short so it isn't as high when I want to move it. I have a piece of 8" stove pipe that I can slide inside the existing pipe to make the stack longer when I am using it. It works good and it makes the stack adjustable.

I got the smoker back from sandblasting and to say I am happy would be an understatement. They did inside and out for $325.00 and I think it was well worth it! This saved me a ton of work sanding and grinding and I never could have achieved the quality they did. I dropped it off Tuesday afternoon and picked it up Wednesday afternoon. They also blasted my new 8"x4' 1/4 wall stack.
Here are a couple before and after shots

For some reason tapatalk is angry and every time I try to go to any of the forums it just says No topics ?????? I cant use it to read or post anything. The regular web site on my phone does not play well and as you can see from my last post it doesn't come out well either.

I did a couple test areas with some rattle can paint to see how it would look. I am going to primer first but wanted to check it out. I have searched all over for a high heat paint that I can shoot thru my paint gun but with no luck. Anything that will work requires a licence to obtain or has to be heated to 400* to set correctly.

So I guess a case or 2 of rattle cans and one of those trigger attachments is how I will go.

Let legs on the smoker have a short piece of pipe protruding because I plan to build some sort of shelve or hanging rack for utensils and so on. It may end up being a half moon shelf that wraps around the end of it.

I have lots of little odds and ends to complete like fixing the broken fire box hinge that got smacked doing sandblasting. I should be firing it up in a few days!

Hey, That is one fine looking smoker,  I'll give you my address so I can yest it out for a couple of years

Nice Job !!

Gary

Rustoleum makes high heat that comes in quarts and gallons. Your are building one fine smoker . Those hindes are a neat idea

I painted this one with Rustoleum gallon I got from tru value hardware . I checked amazon sales the quarts and gallons
Thanks for the info! Everything I found from them was brush on only. When I read the details looking at them on Amazon it said specially do not used in a spray application. I did not want to ruin a expensive spray gun doing this. They even have a picture of a paint brush on the can to let you know its brush on only.

This is gun i used on mine . I even found quarts of the bbq black on ebay. My walmart even carried quarts of the bbq black. The bbq black is somewhere between a flat and a high gloss. I was impressed with paint job on the smoker i bulit and painted.
So you used the "brush on" paint and sprayed it? Did you have to thin it at all? I may got buy some and a cheap gun to test this out?????

I have found u-tube has all the answers...  look for spraying brush on paint..  HVLP spraying rustoleum...  or other stuff and someone, somewhere has done it and made a movie...

With the high heat paint the manufactors don't like you cutting it with thinners as it takes away the heat restsistance.

I call BS on that.  I just thin it about 10% with either plain old gasoline or cheap thinners and works fine.

I painted a 250 gallon smoker and asador I made out of the tank end this morning.

As said above buy a cheap ass gun and blast it on with 1-2 good coats and resonably high pressure.

No i didn't have to thin it .just sprayed it and it went on great . I promise you don't want to paint your big smoker with rattle cans. Get cheap gun i know harbour freight send coupon for that gun for$ 10. I have painted a trailer , shipping container ,and smokers with that gun it did a great job on all. Just trying to help.

Thanks for all the good info!!! I didn't even think about U tube. It's funny because my wife wanted to know the best way to prune her dahlia's and I said check out u tube.

I found some wood stove high temp flat black paint that can handle up to 1400 degrees. It can be sprayed or rolled.

Good luck.
