OMG where have the Vacuum Sealers been all my life? LOL..... Well I put this here were it I thought most approperiate its should be with canning and preservation.

Saturday afternoon FedEx appears and I have a box. Tear that hummer open and I got my Christmas present, a new toy! AND perfect timing with all this sausage and andouille.

I know there are other types, maybe better maybe not, but this is what I settled on. I bought my Mom a Vacuum Sealer from a guys demostrating them in a Sears store 40+ years ago. Never worked worth a squat but Mom, being Mom always had it out on the counter!

After some digging around and being whipped in submission between a slicer and a sealer, did my homework and got a VacMaster Pro 350, seemed a good fit to start with. I am not going into the pros and cons, nor the features but I will tell you the Lisa w/ Vacuum sealers Unlimited ( a site sponsor) did me a great service and told me what I needed instead of what I wanted. LOL

Look at what this baby does and this is just my first job with it.

Sausages? I did get better BTW....

1 lb. to 1.3 lb bags all

Yes, I did also make andouille too.

So much fun! I must make more so I can bag and tag it! Question does anyone here use sticky backed tags?

It certainly makes the amount made look smaller....

That's it, I just wanted to share with those of you who would really appreciate my new Christmas toy!

I am thinking slicer next, but that 5 lb stuffer is seeming small these days....LOL

Thank for sharing with me and Merry Christmas to all.

Congrats Foamy!!!

I never knew you didn't already have one---In my book they are a necessity!!!

We use ours a lot & save a lot of money with buying large amounts & splitting it up.

Have fun with it---Looks like a better model than I have!!!

Merry Christmas to you Foam. Lol

I have the 140. I love it. That thing will save you a lot of food.

I also buy my bags from Lisa.

Looks great! I need a better one I got my mom's 15-20 year old one and it works sometimes maybe depending on the humidity and toothbrush bristle count.

Man, I'm with Bear - vac-packing is a necessity. Works great for sausage, fish, cheese, and even unused portions of spices. Not sure what you're doing with the quantity of product you're making, but this will help keep it fresh and accessible. You went fancy - and good on you. I'm using a decade-old FoodSaver, and it's still going strong. Found some much cheaper rolls of bags on Amazon that are working like a charm at less than half the price of brand-name bags.

Anyway, yeah, it's kind of fun to bag 'em up, and yours look perfectly fine. Wouldn't recommend the labels, though. The adhesive won't stay with you if you freeze em, and they will probably smear if you get them wet. I just write contents and date on the bag with a black sharpie marker.

Magic Marker on the lip of the bags....   It doesn't come off in the freezer.....

Cool Vac-Bagger Kevin....    Congrats......

Mine isn't as fancy.  But we use it weekly. As dave said... Use a sharpie. ...and date it.  b

Congrats on your machine, just started looking for a vac sealer. If you could report back the pros and cons after you use it awhile that would be great. Thanks.

Thanks guys I hate when none of the girls ask me to dance. Its fun so far. I assume the roll of bags is cheaper than the individuals, since those seem to be the easiest to use.

I gotta say .... Now ya'll tell me how much you use it! I should have bought a smaller lighter one.....LOL

NP. Listen it was fired up right out the box and I used it and didn't even have the Vac-Master for Dummies book! It did take all my will power NOT to pull the piece of teflon off the heater ribbon......LOL

Exactly!
<Chuckles>

That looks like a great vac-sealer.

Congrats I think it is much better than the foodsavers I have.

I have to use two of them at once because they get hot & you have to let them cool down before they will work. So I just go back & forth between machines.

Does yours overheat like that?

That's what I used to do:

I have a real old one & another pretty old one. Both of them need a rest after doing both ends of about a dozen bags real fast, so I used to swap them to let one cool while using the other one.

Then I got a huge order of bags from Lisa.

Now since only one end needs sealing, I don't have to let my newer one cool off.

So I got about 500 of each of the two smallest bags, and a dozen rolls just for bigger oddball items.

That solved my overheating problem.

And I think the bags end up costing about 30 cents each.

Very nice, Foam! Looks like commercial grade. Sure puts my Foodsaver to shame....
If you didn't have one, what have you been packaging with? It's an absolute must for aging cheese.
Just go with the Sharpie method.
Merry Christmas!

Iff'n that thoroughbred workhorse you've got is too much for your pasture, I'll trade my old gray mare for it!

Joking aside, that unit will do you very well. When I wear my unit out, I'll look to Lisa for something similar.

Looks good my foodsaver still works.

Richie
LOL... I tell ya Mom's old foodsaver is in a box around here somewhere. Probably with the hula-hoop LOL

Not yet. This sucker is idiot proof. I trim the bag to the size I want, fill it, put the lip in the unit, press down gently and hit start and walk away and get another bag ready. Next the vacuum releases and it beep's when its ready for the next one. I am guessing but it seems like about 20 seconds for the entire operation.

I don't know anything about these suckers at all. The manual is thin, large print and to the point.

My only complaint/ suggestion They need a large orange "CAUTION" card for idiots saying "DO NOT REMOVE THE TEFLON TAPE COVERING THE HEATING TAPE" It just looks like its a shipping type thing for protecting.... It took all my will power to not just rip it off when I pulled it out the box. It drew me to it and tried to seduce me to the dark side. LOL

New & Shiny it looks good with the meat grinder! Seriously wondering where the shelve will fit so I can store/show off all my new toys! LOL

I grabbed the 380 for my xmass present. Things sucks, as in sucks the air right out of anything! My only complaint is that I have to open the bag storage every time to get to the roll. The cutter cuts to close to the opening so unless you have long fingernails you can't grasp the plastic without opening the door.
