Just got a pitboss pellet smoker. Havent had much good weather to use it much. Seems like when outside temp is below 50'f that i have to really crank it up to get to 225'f. Anyone have expierence with these?
Hello EMB...Congrats on the new pellet pusher! I don't own that particular rig, but wind and weather definitely has an effect on performance in my Rec Tec pellet smoker. The colder and windier the conditions, the more the controller will struggle to maintain the set temp. It usually gets there eventually, but it takes longer and burns more pellet fuel.
Good luck with the new rig, and be sure to show it off with some action shots of your cooks!
Hello EMB! I just purchased the Pitboss 820 and notice that it does vary a little with colder temps and wind. I have been playing around with the P settings on Smoke to see which one works best for me. I think that it defaults to 4, but found that P5 or P6 works a little better in Northern Indiana to keep it around 225. I'll be smoking a Pork Butt this weekend to test it out a little more. So far the Pit Boss seems to be decent for the price.
