This is just a simple steak cook.

I had a couple of fillet steaks I cut from a whole beef tenderloin I picked up at Costco.

I seasoned them with Louisiana Grills Mesquite Rub N' Grill.

I preheated the pellet smoker to 510 F. The Louisiana Grills smoker has a plate you can move that opens a grate directly above the fire box.

I put the steak directly over the flames for under a minute to get some sear marks and rotated it for a diamond pattern.

I did the same thing to the other side.

I moved the steaks over to the main part of the grill and smoked for just a few more minutes to get them to medium rare.

I took them inside and let them rest.

We like our steak sliced thin and served.

We served it with mashed potato casserole and mixed vegetables.

The Verdict

A great piece of meat, cooked simply. Enough said.

Good use of a pellet grill, thought they were only for smoking.

Top drawer, Disco! Those steaks look to be cooked just about perfectly, and I have to agree...I, too am very pleased with the sear my pellet grill puts on a steak! It's hard to beat such a simple and tasty meal...nicely done my friend! Thumbs Up

Looks great and fast.
Thanks, Adam. I have worked for hours and not had a better meal.

Har! I guess it is like trying to use a gas barbecue to smoke!

Thanks, for the point, Red. My pellet smoker has become my go to steak method.

I'm thinking about getting a pellet grill as well. But Traeger is all that is sold around here so that's what I'm thinking about going with I know there not the best. But I'm sure they don't have the searing grate like some do. So I have not pulled the trigger because I worry that searing can't be done on it

A buddy has a Traeger and bought metal grilling plates that he puts on top of the grates in his Traeger as he preheats it. They give him lots of sear. Do you want me to check out where he got them from and their brand name?
