I have been tied in to Arizona smoking for over 7 years. I was very active here until a couple years ago, when life got in the way of smoking and posting. I'll try to maintain my presence for a while.

Smoking a butt and rack for the game tomorrow. Go CARDS!

I started with an electric ECB, found a used Brinkmann Smoke n Pit Pro, (Eileen), built a UDS, and was gifted a Pro Q 20--which had started as one of Crash's smokers, if any of you remember THAT legend! He's doing great in HI; even showed up on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives!

One more time

GO CARDS!!

I am around here too.....but as you mentioned...life sometimes does get in the way.  I am thinking seriously about looking at a Traeger Pellet smoker.... I guess the older I get the less work I want to do to cook...but still want to enjoy the experience of the smoke, and course the GREAT taste!!!!.

I have a friend who has the Traeger, and swears by it.  It sure does seem simple compared to my Masterbuilt Dual Pro.

Anyone have good or bad thoughts on the Traeger?

Buck, a guy I know from the local forum is a Traeger rep, as well as an accomplished competition cook. Last I knew, he has a pretty nice Lang offset as well as other stuff. Let's get you two talking. And add in Green Mountain Grills from BBQ Island in Tempe by IKEA.

Thanks for the reply. I see where Costco is having the Traeger's on their 'tour'' through the various stores in the Phoenix area in the next few weeks. Figured I'd take a look there also.

Evening fellow smokers- I've been smoking on my Horizon offset stick burner for years don't get me wrong I love the need to feed the fire[emoji]128077[/emoji] But, just a couples moths back I bought a GMG Jim Bowie pellet smoker and I must say I'm very impressed with the proformance and the quilty of how the cooks turn. May different pellets out there did a lot of research on pellets and found the Cookingpellets Perfect Mix is by far the best quilty that I have seen, I have very little dust in the bottom of the bag and the ash in my pellet pit is almost nothing even after a 14 hr smoke on a pork butt or a brisket. Anyway with all that aside just wanted to share some pictures of my GMG Jim Bowie smoker I have done some mods to it. Changed out the grill grates and made some just like the ones you would see on and offset smoker at list the one I have. I also added a second cooking shelf with full slide out capability, along with a collapsible front shelf, lastly added a bottom storage shelf to go with it. Here's a couple pictures of the smoker. BTW I'm in the Peoria,Az area letting the smoke roll [emoji]128077[/emoji]

Hi Joe. Is that just standard #9 X 3/4 expanded metal, like I can buy at Davis Metal Recycling on Washington? That's where I got all the x-metal I used to make the charcoal baskets for my UDS and my offset. Have you made it down to 40th Street and University to Little Miss BBQ?

My late FIL lived off of Mountain View and 95th St., and I have a couple other friends in that neighborhood. Most of my BBQ friendships are east siders or down in "The Old Pueblo". I'm not far from Fry's Electronics on T-Bird.

azkitch- yes it is I picked up a 4x8 sheet flat expanded metal for like $32 off of Grand and Northern (67th Ave) it's the closest place near me. I used the same stuff to make a basket for my offset stick burner too[emoji]128077[/emoji]

Hey Joe.
I'm sure glad you posted. Thanks to your post I think I have decided to pick up a GMG Daniel Boone grill. Found a great deal @ Barbecue Island. Just wish I had the skills to make the mods that you have done. The extra grill rack inside and the tray on the bottom between the grill legs look fantastic. Anyway I look forward to getting the GMG home and fired up - hopefully have a good meal Tuesday or Wednesday.

Buck1949- did you check to seeing the pricing was any different at sportsman warehouse? And did you get a free grill cover? Welcome to the GMG family

I actually did.  I ended up getting a DEMO model of the Daniel Boone.  Was super discounted, and it came with the FULL Warranty as if new.   Was used once to show off a Turkey on the grill.  Heck there was barely any soot, or burn marks anywhere on the entire grill.  I was told that the grill was not used to even finish the turkey but for demonstration and photo op type display.

It came with the Wi-Fi  system and even a 1/2 hopper of pellets.

.  I also did get a Cover.... well I will be getting it... .apparently it is on Factory Back order and they hope to get them in next week.

The other good thing about all this is it was fully assembled !!!!!

I went ahead and bought a couple of bags of pellets to get me going....and then I will look around for some different stuff.  I like using pecan and applewood alot and of course Mesquite...so will be trying to find the purest of those pellets instead of the blend that I bought to start up.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em I always say !!!!

Buck1949- just make sure you 100% hardwood pellets burns a lot nicer and burns completely! nothing with alder in it they don't burn all the way and causes you to get a lot of soot on your food and no one wants that [emoji]128534[/emoji] Matter of fact this is all I have every used in my smoker and I have never had any soot problems no pellet jams and most of all at the bottom of the bad there is hardly and dust[emoji]128077[/emoji] Anyway glad you got all the bells and whistles! Ames me some pictures of your first smoke. One last thing make sure your wifi is set to the latest framware update 5.9 any questions feel free to ask and I'll do my best to help you.

Happy Smokin'

Thi s is what I burn

Buck1949, I didn't see it when I looked online at the website a couple months back. I'll definitely look into it tomorrow
Thanks for the info. [emoji]128077[/emoji]
