Thread Starter

Hey guys and gals,

Im Matt and live in Memphis.  I just bought my first offset smoke and am about to pick it up this weekend.  I bought the OK Joe Highland and spent a couple hours putting it together one night.  I then started reading about some of the mods that should be done to it.  I read about sealing it with high temp silicone to hold in as much smoke as possible, but then thought about the silicone cracking over time.  I decided to have all the firebox welded together (it came in two pieces) and also weld the firebox to the smoking chamber. I also had tack welds placed in other places to firm it up.  I also have the smoke stack lengthened down to the cooking rack on the inside.  I also have a smoke box and have a tuning plate on the way.  Hopefully  this is a good way to start, let me know if you think otherwise or have any pointers.  I am looking forward to using this forum and learning how to smoke some great tasting treats!

hopefully ill have some pictures this weekend of the smoker.  thanks for taking the time to look at my intro!

Welcome to the board, Matt! I'm running a similar offset and I love it. They're fussy like a steam locomotive but you can get some good results. See my sig for how I've been playing with mine.
