Ramping temps up with a PID controller ( which method ?)

OK... Thoughts on ramping temps up for snack sticks and sausage.. Using a PID controller that ramps temps up automatically...

A. Would you program so that temps just go up slowly over the set time ( a degree or two every few minutes) ??

B. Program so that temps go up quickly (in minutes) for each hour and then hold that set temp for that hour and then jump up to the next 10` higher and hold for the next hour ??

Hope this makes sense ....

My last smoke was with A. slowly over time... been thinking about trying B. and see If overall cook times are any faster.... ??

If I were to program mine to ramp, I'd go with "B". Now, the reason I say that, is because that's how I've been doing it and it works really well.

Personally, I don't use programming anymore because I want to make myself go look at the pit on a regular basis. I've had too many instances where I've lost power, smoke, temp, had flare ups, etc....

Also, sometimes meats like to get done a lot faster than they did last time. biggrin.gif

I'd go with option "B".

I almost have all the pieces together to set up my PID controlled smoker and I will use that plan.
