Thank you for the greetings I am really getting into sausage making and other meats as well been in it for a while but with this new smoker it could really go well as long as I can get it to draft properly and throw good heat. I think the main thing right now is damp wood and air flow.

It's just frustrating I don know if you can tell from the pics on what I might be able to do but I can not get it to draw properly. It smokes just fine but the heat is not even close to mainly used 225 temp

Can we get some closeups of it? Kind of hard to see anything from this pic but it looks like the opening from the firebox to the cook chamber is a little on the small size. More pics and more info about the smoker would help.

I was just out going over some things and that is what I have come up with. The opening g from the fire box to cook chamber is 3 to 3.5 in circle I was thinking trying to make it between 5 and 6 in. It seems like it's bottle kneckeni and not letting enough flow. Also the exaust stack is 4 in by 48 in tall and offset should I make it 6 in and center it in the lid of the cooking vault. Here are some pics

Yes sir, the opening between the FB and CC is too small. Not sure about the exhaust. What I will do is try to get @DaveOmak in on this post, he is one of the resident fabrication gurus. If he can't get you straight on the size everything needs to be, nobody can. He can help you use Feldons Calculator to figure you opening sizes. To use the calculator you need the size of both the cc and fb.

I would really appreciate you getting in touch with that guy. I have some measurements FB Ht 28in Dth 28in. Wth 25in CC 51 in of it is 24 in round and 10 in of it is 24 in round to about 4 in round cone. I can get everything to modify my smoker I just want to get it right cause it could be one heck of a smoker not to bad for my first build I figured I would run into something so I was ready to make mods. I really do appreciate it man glad I found this forum.

I went ahead and ran your numbers thru the calculator.
CC is 24,159 cubic inches.
FB is 19,600 cubic inches (241% recommended size for your CC)
Recommended exhaust is 6" x 33" tall.
Recommend FB-CC is 14 1\8" circle.
Recommend 58 sq inches of air intake.

Here is the link if you want to run the numbers yourself. Use 24" Dia by 54" length to get correct volume of CC.

Edited to correct size of CC which in turn affected all other measurements.

To SMF hope the plans on your new build works out for you looks interesting.

Thanks halfsmoked it's going a bit rough trying to get the draft all figured out gotta couple things to try. I have a bunch of summer sausage to smoke among other meats just got to get it figured out.

Well then, Dave would know. I used it to build mine but it's a vertical reverse flow. I would try going 8 inches between fb and CC with a diffuser plate to spread heat and smoke out.
