Hello my name is EJ from So Cal, I just got a new smoker yesterday.I have had a chargriller duo for 2 years and have been looking to upgrade for awhile now. Found this site while looking for ideals for a new smoker and my wife got me the OK Joe Highland for my birthday. Seen all the mods that people are doing and am wodering if there will be any issues if I were to weld the fire box instead of using RVT to seal it?

Welcome to SMF!

as for welding the fire box on the Okie Joe ? If you have the skills and equipment to weld thin metals i cant see why you couldn't (other than it will void any warranties )

You might try the RTV and get an idea of what works and what doesn't and then go back and weld?

I would just make sure the bolts that join the firebox and cooking chamber are tight.
They seem to loosen up after a cook or two. Enjoy your new smoker.
