What is everyone's favorite seasoning? I did a brisket for the first time the other day and seasoned it in an apple wood dry rub that I bought at safeway. I'm curious to learn about some home made rubs though. Some keep it simple with salt and pepper and some get crazy with several ingredients. Anyone have a killer rub that a new brisket-eer should try out? I'm all ears!

In a spice grinder or mortar and pestle, coarsely grind:
  • 4 tablespoons whole black pepper (you can also use your favorite cracked black pepper but don't grind it again)
  • 2 tablespoons whole coriander
  • 2 tablespoons whole mustard seed
Add:
  • 2 tablespoons granulated or powdered garlic
  • 2 tablespoons granulated or powdered onion
  • 4 tablespoons coarse sea salt (Kosher salt will work, too)

I use to use Salt and course black pepper.  Lately I've been fooling around with Butchers BBQ Prime Brisket rub.  I like it. b
