Should I return my 40" for a 30"??

I am new to this forum and to smoking. In fact, I have not smoked anything yet!! My question is....on Black Friday Academy had the 40" Masterbuilt electric smoker for $199.99. I have been wanting one so I bought it. But what I really wanted was the 30" but since the 40" was on sale for same price as 30" I thought I'll just get the bigger one.  Still not out of the box, this thing is HUGE!!! I don't think I need this big of one. I won't be using much and when I do, I won't be doing a lot of meat at one time.

So...should I exchange for the 30"? They still have it for $199.99 at Academy only until Sat, Dec 5th. I think it's exactly the same one just a 30"

Thanks!! :icon_confused:

Keep the larger one. I almost never hear of anyone regretting having one that is a bit bigger. You might just be surprised at what you end up filling it with at some point in the future.

I started with the 30 and then went to the 40.  I was in the same boat.  I didn't think I'd do that much.'s awful nice when you want to do the extra pork butt or do some ABTs when you've got other meat going.  Stick with the 40.  You'll grow into it.

I recommend investing in a Maverick probe, too.  The MES never give you the right temp.  I don't question my Mav 732.

stick with the 40 for 2 main reasons imo. not having to cut full racks of ribs and not having to cut a full packer brisket.

Keep the 40. Once folks taste all the good stuff you make, bigger crowds will be coming to dinner and you might get requests to make food for other folks parties. Had my Daughter's friend Erica over for Ribs in June and she took a Doggie Bag. Erica's dad called the next day and asked me to smoke EIGHT RACKS for a 4th of July Picnic...Was a good thing I had the MES40!...JJ
