Nice work. How did you come up with the 7" to inset the fire box to the cc? i'm just in the process of my build and i see as lot of fb inserted into the cook chamber, is there any benefit to this? Or does it matter if Fb is on the outside? Im sure The Guru will have some input.........Dave?
For ease in fit up.....   insert the FB past the weld seam...   the weld seam usually has a backing strip inside the tank that makes fitting up the RF plate very difficult....  cutting and fitting around all those odd shapes etc...

Got two of the racks done and decided to season it up today. Threw in some chicken just to not waste the smoke. Need to work on the firebox vents since the fire was starving. That's an easy fix tho. Ran pretty well. A few odds and ends and some paint and she'll be done. Thanks everyone for the help.

Those are similar to what I'm planning Dave.  The FB is a repurposed wood burning stove so the door has the original wood burner vents.  Thought maybe it'd be enough but I had to crack the door to get the temps up.  Obviously the fire was starving for oxygen.  I'll probably leave the originals and put new vents on the side with the uppers just above the door straight across from the CC opening. Still have to add handles and build a front shelf also, but worked pretty well for a first seasoning.

Got the front shelf and another rack done today then fired it up. Doing a butt and a rack of ribs. I'm 4 and 1/2 hours in and the smoker is chugging along nicely between 225 and 250 depending on when I add fuel. It's eating 2 or 3 splits every 30 to 45 min. Pretty happy with it. 4.5 hrs and the butt is at 172. Getting ready to foil it. The ribs have 45m left. Probably just foil them both at the same time.

Lookin' good....   TBS looks perfect.....
