Wow I hadn't realized it had been so long since I updated this! I got a few things done the past few weeks. I cut the door to the CC cut. Instead of having square corners I thought I would put a radius on them. My thought was the corner wouldn't warp out being its not a point? Turns out it didn't warp with the radius but I don't know if I would do it again. Now I need to leave my bottom shelf up about 1". Won't make a difference but just being anal I guess. Looks like this is the only pic I have
I did make the top cut 1st. Then tacked on the hinges, then cut the rest of the door. Here's a pic of the hinges
I really was debating about patio vs trailer model. I kept putting it off. I decided to go patio. If I don't like it, it won't be that difficult to put on a trailer. If you remember the welding table I cut up for the FB, I used the legs off that to make some new legs. One thing I learned today- a man cannot have too many clamps. Be it c-clamps, vise grips, whatever. When my wife asks "why do you need so many?" I can show her this pic-
Here is everything tacked up ready to go
BTW if you look underneath the FB I found 3 old crank car jacks. They work great for leveling everything side to side, front to back etc.
Thanks for looking. I'll try to be better with the updates!

Any ballpark idea on what this thing weighs at this point?  Lookin great!

Thanks tjmitche! Not sure on weight but my best guess is it's knocking on the 1000 lb door. I figure going to 1/2" FB added about 300lbs +/- Maybe 1100 lbs when done? Ouch

Beautiful Build !! Ihave access to a bunch of these tanks,I love to use them because of the height between cooking grates. If anyone needs a tank this size, I get them for $50 Bucks each, also the smaller 24x30 inch 57 gallon tanks, always keep a few around.

Mike

Ugh. Why does a guy always have to run out of gas for the welder on a Sunday?
Same exact thing happened to me. Still had some left in the tig tank so I did more with that. It's too bad carrying gas is such a liability otherwise TSC would have it.

It rolls on its own!

I finished welding up the rest of the frame along with pads to bolt the wheels to. Here's a pic of it next to my old one. I wanted a size comparison of the two. Hopefully I won't run out of room on this one!

I have been trying to figure out how to lay out my cutout for the smokestack. I didn't want to build a plenum. I wanted to cut into the tank if possible. Just thought it will look better. This is what I came up with. First I had to have the stack setting in place so I clamped a bar of flat stock I had laying around. Here you can see it the length of the CC.
The end of my tube was square so when I set it on there it only took minor tweaking to get it in the right spot. Then it was only a matter of holding a straight edge to it and marking it on the tank as I follow it around.

I don't know why I struggled with this one for something that turned out so simple! Oh well. I hope this can help someone else if they're trying to figure out how to also

Time to start cutting. I'll let you know how it goes

Very nice fit.....    Folks could learn something from you....  Me too.....

I'm borrowing your pictures so folks will have a reference on fitting up and exhaust stack...   Much better than anything I could put together...

Does the smokestack go into the CC or does it get trimmed on the inside to match the radius?

Good morning Dave. First off, thank you for the very nice compliment

And thank you for all the help. I know I'm not alone on this one

If you trim the stack leaving about 1-3", you'll be happy....

By this do you mean 1-3" sticks down into CC? Or 1-3" above the cooking grate? My plan was to have it just above the lowest grate. After reading this it got me looking at old posts. I did find this from Ribwizzard

The problem I've found with extending the stack low inside the CC is that the food on the upper racks will get a darker color to them than the lower racks, especially true with chicken. I actually went back and trimmed the stacks higher on #19 due to that reason. From then on, I've only extended them as low as the top off the food would be on the top shelf, and I'm much happier with the results.

I realize things have been slowly tweaked thru the yrs but is this still the general consensus?

Good morning Dave. I was wondering, could you comment on your post #76 & my #77? The part about the 1-3"? I don't know if I am understanding that correctly. Thanks Dave.
