I got tired of catching a whiff of that tank every once in a while. I thought maybe I put off cutting it open long enough!
Over the last few weeks I've filled it with water and dawn 3 times and left it sit each time. There are 4 ports on the top of this tank. I plugged off 2 and put 90 deg elbows on the other 2
I don't know if it helped any but on the inlet where I hooked up the hose I soldered on a piece of copper pipe I had laying here into the ID of the 90 deg elbow. It went into the tank and stopped a few inches from the bottom. I thought maybe if it filled from the bottom and I left it run out the top for a while maybe it would help to rinse it out. Wow the water coming out the top sure did stink! Not sure if it helped or not but I felt better about cutting into it
I wasn't sure how I was going to cut into it. I know some have used a plasma cutter but I really didn't want to. I thought maybe keep it filled with water and use an air powered cut-off wheel. Didn't really want sparks though. I ended up drilling a few holes next to each other so I could get my sawzall blade in there
I ended up drilling 2 more in the corner to start the cut around the circumference of the tank. Should have done that first I guess. Could've saved myself some drilling
With a sharp blade it cut really nice. Could've easily done it with one but I used 2.
I was kinda nervous about cutting away too much/not being square/etc... So I cut shy from where I needed to be. Turned out to be a pretty nice cut-out. Looks like I gave myself some extra work to do
Turns out I really didn't need to be as nervous as I was. Cautious yes. I would say if you are nervous about it, listen to what these guys have to say on here. There is so much information on this website! Rinse it out as many times as needed for you to feel comfortable.
