Hello new to the forum!
So I know it's an over talked subject, and I read tons of reviews both bad and good, I am in the rut and dot know which one is best. I hear the Gen 1 is better then Gen 2. OK
So I'm looking at a Gen 2 at Lowe's 20076515
http://m.lowes.com/pd/Masterbuilt-J...Smoker-Common-40-in-Actual-40-276-in/50408360

Or the Gen 1?
20070311
http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/mas...ctric-smoker-with-window?repChildCatid=638908

Any reviews, thoughts.
I've heard some negativity on the Gen 2 I was hoping the Lowe's version was an updates problem fixed version saying as it is a 2015 model?? Wishful thinking.

I personally am looking for a deal on the 40 Gen 1 to avoid problems that I have read about, I hear the 2015 BT model has been fairly problem free so far, but is quite a bit more money. Sorry I can't give some strong advice but I too am new to the MES.

I got a good look at all 3 of them, and below is my findings:

I never had the Gen 1, but did have the Gen 2.0 and now have the Gen 2.5 and I gotta agree totally with "da Bear" He is spot on here ...

All I ever had was the new 2.5 BT. It was a gift from the wifey. $329 at SAMs and comes with the stand. If money is an issue get the gen 1. Stay away from the gen 2

I hope you gave your wife a Big Smooch for that !!!

You're a Lucky Guy, Earl !!

Hey bear that was an awesome review. Want to thank you for that and your response, I've been reading a lot of posts on this sight before I joined, and Ive seen you have helped alot. It is looking like the blue tooth is the way to go, it just seems like they want a lot of dough.

I wentered to Lowe's to look at the 40 they had and the 30, they had older version on display not what they were selling.
Anyway the link I originally posted for lowes, it looks like they incorporated your sugesstions, the vents on the top left, the hinges
Looks like they still have the slanted tray/ water pan.

Yup---That's a Gen #2, even though it has to top vent on top instead of on the side. Some of the Gen #2s started having the top vent on top at the very end of 2014, but the slanted drip plate & small water pan were still there, until the Gen 2.5 BT came out.

I would get the 2.5 if you can swing it, and the Gen #1 if you can't.

The bt model is 429 at cabelas, I wonder if it will go on sale after thanksgiving. With that being said, they have the after hours thing tomorrow I can get employee discount!

They used to have sales between Thanksgiving & Christmas, but I haven't paid much attention the last couple years.

If you are looking for the 40" blue tooth, Bass Pro is having a black friday sale on the BT model for $199 for the 40".  It's only for a couple of hours friday morning in store only though.

At would have been a good deal if it was.

OK so I'm sold on the mes2.5 bt.
Which one do yall like,
bass pro has a window, stainless steal version.with stand for 479
Cables has all black no window 429
But I got invited for cables discount for today, don't know how big of a discount.

What are yall thoughts on the window, is it really worth it. I just don't see me watching the meat for hours on end.

I had a "No-Window" MES 30 for a year, and then a Window MES 40 for 5 years.

I would never buy another "No Window" MES.

The SS are Great, but you gotta decide what you want to throw at it.

Some guys like the legs, but with my set-up (Platform boxes) I'm glad I got the one without legs.

I've only had MES smokers with windows and could never imagine trying to smoke something right without a window.

Sams has it for $329 "with legs included" which you can get for the Pro Bass and Cables ones for another $60. Sams has 4 shelves and Pro Bass 6 shelves. You will seldom use or need if ever, 6 shelves.

That's $150 cheaper then bass pro.
Is that the only difference between the two is the shelfs?
